Warrant officer hopes 9 drunk driving arrests will send strong message

The arrests were made during a joint operation between SAPS and JMPD officers, leading into the festive season.

Norwood SAPS Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha hopes nine drunk driving arrests will send a strong warning to motorists this festive season.

They were made on November 1, on Louis Botha Avenue in Orange Grove, through a joint operation with the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD).

Masotsha said: “As we approach the festive holidays, we, as SAPS and JMPD, mean business when dealing with motorists who drive under the influence.” He added that this was an ongoing operation, which will continue until next year.

The warrant officer urged commuters to report all drivers who are negligent on public roads, as well as other criminal activities, to 0810010111.

The nine arrested drivers will appear before the magistrate’s court in due course.
