Rising through the ranks with Redhill equestrian Shayla Sachs
The local learner from Morningside looks forward to the 2026 Toyota Equestrian Series.
Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) officially launched the 2026 Toyota Equestrian Series at the prestigious Kyalami Park Club on February 18, continuing its four-year partnership driving equestrian sport in South Africa.
Rider Shayla Sachs from Redhill School is looking forward to it. She said competing at a high level was not just about winning; it was about pushing herself, representing the school, and growing both as a rider and as a person.
“Every competition helps me improve and grow. It means a lot to ride for something bigger than just myself.”

She explained that before tackling a new course, she focuses on connecting with her horse and calming her mind. “I remind myself and my horse that we are a team and we trust each other. Staying positive and focused helps us give our best together.”

Shayla pointed out that lessons from past experiences have shaped her approach to the sport. “Riders who fall and get up are stronger than those who never fall at all.” She said she viewed setbacks not as failures but as opportunities to learn and improve.
Shayla elaborated that being part of the Redhill equestrian team adds another layer of motivation. “It feels like a family. Everyone cheers each other on, and there is no judgment, just kindness and encouragement.” Her strongest bond is with Delti, her ‘heart’ horse. She describes their connection as calming and grounding, a relationship that began the very first moment they met.
Each season, Shayla sets both small and big goals, focusing on growth, confidence, and riding skills step by step.
