Metsimaholo municipality engages residents in a budget meeting

The IDP season has seen Metsimaholo undertaking the roadshow to different communities under their duristriction.

ORANJEVILLE – Metsimaholo Local Municipality held a very successful Budget Consultative Meeting in the Metsimaholo crowd hall, attracting a sizable crowd and active participation in a potent demonstration of participatory governance.

The meeting was held per the municipality’s constitutional responsibility to include communities in planning and decision-making, specifically regarding the municipal budget for 2025–2026.

Ward 5 councillor Mapule Mofokeng gave a hearty welcome, introducing the executive mayor, Jack Malindi, along with other important dignitaries and community members.

Chief Financial Officer Fikile Mareka’s comprehensive budget presentation explained the municipality’s budget priorities, forecasts, and major allocations for the upcoming fiscal year. Assuring citizens that their needs and concerns continue to be at the forefront of municipal planning, Mareka placed a strong emphasis on accountability and openness in the budget process.

When MMC for Technical and Infrastructural Services,councillor Poho, and Director of Technical Services Dr. Ramabitsa took the floor to discuss urgent community issues, the two provided an update on the long-awaited sports complex’s status, openly telling guests that the issue is presently under judicial review and hence sub judice.

Their forthrightness was met with mixed reactions, but also a sense of appreciation for the clarity provided.
Dr. Ramabitsa clarified that the municipality is actively investigating the underlying causes and putting corrective measures in place through its water purification facility in response to citizens’ ongoing concerns about contaminated water.

He restated the municipality’s dedication to guaranteeing everyone’s constitutional right to clean and safe drinking water.

Malindi expertly facilitated the question-and-answer round, which brought the meeting to a climax. On a variety of service delivery concerns, community members used the occasion to express their hopes, complaints, and recommendations. Mayor Malindi answered all of the questions calmly and sympathetically, reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to open governance and better service provision.
