SEBOKENG.- Rumours are circulating that the former SAFA Sedibeng Regional Secretary, Sebego Hlongwane, is set to make a comeback in football.

Hlongwane previously served the SAFA Sedibeng Region under the leadership of Xolani Mtumtum before the region was placed under administration.

Reports indicate that Hlongwane is being considered to challenge the current Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA) Chairman, Jabu Mgcina, in the upcoming elections. This development follows an ugly confrontation during the recent ELFA Ordinary Congress held at Houtkop Hall.

A video has been trending online showing team representatives in a heated standoff with members of the ELFA executive committee. The situation spiraled out of control, forcing security personnel to intervene and remove club representatives from the hall.

The chaos erupted after Mgcina declared the meeting closed, a move that deeply angered the club officials.

It is alleged that the frustrated club owners and officials want the current executive committee emoved from office entirely. They claim that the committee’s term is long overdue and are demanding new leadership to steer the troubled local football association forward.

Amid these grievances, Hlongwane’s name has been put forward by clubs that argue that the current leadership no longer takes them seriously. When questioned about whether he intends to run for the ELFA chairmanship, Hlongwane told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he was not in a position to comment at the moment. However, he did confirm his desire to return to the sport.
