Breaking new ground to help Nhlanhla

Despite extensive research, David Kinsler has failed to find any record of this walk having been done before.

IT’S a long way through rough country but David Kinsler is not the sort to be deterred by such minor considerations as creature comfort. He’s not even put off by the fact that it seems no one has ever walked the entire length of the Umzumbe river before. And that’s just what he is planning to do – 90 kilometres from the source to the sea.

But it’s not just some madcap adventure – though the tough 19-year-old does admit that exploring is ‘his thing’. He’s hoping to raise funds to help fellow Umzumbe resident Nhlanhla Mqadi, the young lifesaver who lost both legs in a hit-and-run incident last year.

Despite being still at school, Nhlanhla was his family’s main breadwinner and his disability grant is now its chief source of income. With an extended family to feed and clothe, the young man has a tough time of it. David wants to ease his plight.

Anyone – companies or individuals – who would like to sponsor him on this trip, either with a lump sum or on a per kilometre basis, can contact David at 083 4098951 or david.kinsler123@gmail.com
