Safe homes unite to care for children

The safe home has the capacity to care for six babies at a time.

ALL the children in the care of Danie and Heather Herbst from Hope Harbour in Margate have recently relocated to the Doxa uMephi Baby Home in Port Shepstone.

Both parties are extremely excited and positive about what lies ahead.

Doxa uMephi Baby Home was started in 2008 to meet a need for a safe home for abandoned and orphaned babies.

The home is overseen by the Doxa Suidkus Gemeente situated in Margate.

It currently cares for five children between the ages of eight months and five years, but has the capacity to care for six babies at a time.

The vision is for it to be registered as a child and youth care centre which will enable the home to care for more babies.

The safe house runs on donations and goodwill from the community.

They need help every month to care for these little ones. Nappies, formula, toiletries, utility bills and staff salaries have to be paid for every month. Fresh fruit and vegetables are also needed.

“We would like to thank the community for their donations and ask for ongoing support from the community as we care for these little ones. Every child is special and we care for them until they can be placed in foster care or adopted by forever families,” said Heather Herbst.
