Umdoni Business Forum hampers completion of beachfront construction
According to a source, the binding contract is currently being reviewed.
DOES Umdoni Municipality care about its ratepaying residents and soon-to-be arriving holidaymakers and will it enforce the contract it has between itself and Minathi Construction?
Construction on the beachfront parking areas began some months ago but seemingly became hampered as a result of some serious weather on more than one occasion. But the weather was not the only thing hampering the completion of the project.

According to a variety of sources, the Umdoni Business Forum – not to be confused with the Umdoni Business Chamber – had wanted a portion of the contract to go to local subcontractors, despite a binding contract with Minathi Consulting, who had been awarded the R20-million tender.
According to a source, the binding contract is currently being reviewed.
However, it states that the contractor has no obligation to subcontract the project.
Africa Mthimkhulu, the managing member of Minathi Consulting confirmed that it was indeed the Umdoni Business Forum which had stopped them from proceeding with the upgrade of the beachfront parking areas.

“They wanted us to give a portion of the work to local subcontractors, which was not discussed with us prior to starting the work,” he said.
He added that they had resolved all the issues and that construction would resume.
It is hoped that Minathi Consulting will finish phase one of the project by the December break. A revised construction programme has been sent out to all relevant stakeholders.
