UPDATE: Truck carrying bricks crashed into storm water drain leaving 2 dead and 5 injured at Umkomaas

One of the three men lying near the wreckage had been found in a critical condition while the two other men were found to have sustained moderate injuries.

UPDATE:

TWO men have been confirmed dead following an accident along the P197 in Umkomaas yesterday, which saw a further five men injured.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that two men had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead,” said ER24 Media Liaison Officer, Russel Meiring.

One of the three men, treated by ER24 paramedics, lying near the wreckage had been found in a critical condition while the two other men were found to have sustained moderate injuries.

According to reports, the truck, which had been carrying a load of bricks, had lost control and veered off the roadway crashing into a storm water drain.

The truck had also collided with some pedestrians, according to reports.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

Authorities are investigating.

AN accident  in Umkomaas has resulted in the death of two men and left five others in a serious condition when a truck reportedly carrying bricks crashed near the entrance to Sappi Saiccor.

KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert Mckenzie said it appeared the truck struck several pedestrians before crashing into an embankment.

Details are still sketchy.

Authorities are investigating.
