Umtamvuna Views: Dan and Hazel place third

Dan, who is 89, was the team’s anchor.

THREE Port Edward bowlers travelled to Northern Drakensberg last week to take part in the annual Cavern Berg Resort’s bowling competition. Judith Simpson and Dan and Hazel Delaney thoroughly enjoyed the tournament, held on greens surrounded by beautiful mountain views. Dan, who is 89, was the team’s anchor and astounded other bowlers with his consistently superb play.

They came third in the tournament and each won a R600 voucher. It was a fun five days and many new friends were made.

Safe and sound

Port Edward’s social media sites were abuzz last week over the disappearance of an elderly man who has Alzheimer’s. The man, from a Port Edward facility, went ‘walkabout’ for almost a week, but was fortunately found unharmed in Butterworth.

Collect caps

Please consider collecting metal bottle caps with frilly edges for Tongazi Crafters, who will make good use of them. For further information, contact Cynthia White at 082 789 4338.

Plastic predicament

Dave Watson, who also represents the DA on the Environmental Committee, introduced a motion asking the municipality to investigate the possibility of banning, or the very least limiting, the use of single use plastics. This includes items like straws, water bottles and plastic carrier bags.

Resource riddle

Sadly, basic infrastructures for the community at large are crumbling. There has been no Internet availability at any RNM libraries since April, and indeed the entire province – other than eThekwini, which is a metro.

This is a totally unacceptable situation. This is a critical resource that students need to access to apply for scholarships, funding and study aids in exams.

Pensioners and small business owners also use libraries and the Internet for all sorts of reasons.

Water woes

Many residents were without water for days recently – apparently a major leak emptied the reservoir. Hopefully these problems will all be sorted out by the time visitors arrive for the festive season.
