Hibberdine Happenings: There’s still time to make an appointment

After the last scheduled days for 2018, patients will have to wait until mid-February or March next year.

LAST week’s rain was most welcome, although it did have an adverse effect on attendance at the eye and dental clinics, leading to several appointments not being honoured. It’s such a pity that people can’t be bothered to inform organisers beforehand if they are unable to attend – after all, all it takes is a phone call, sms or WhatsApp.

As a result of the poor attendance, the Spring Fair raffles have not yet been drawn and will be done so at a better attended occasion. There is only one more eye clinic left this year – November 21st, and two dental days on October 31 and November 14. After that, patients will have to wait until mid-February or March, so make your bookings now at 073 1653961 (eyes) and 082 2935757 for the dentist.

Service and supper

The Hare Krishna Society meets this Saturday (27th) for its enlightenment session. Venue is the Hibberdene Care Centre and the time is 3pm. All are welcome. Supper will be served. Contact Rajen Mahabeer at 0828362758 for further information.

Monthly get-together

Mizpah Church’s chicken braai takes place next Sunday (28th) after the morning service. Chicken is available for a small donation, though meat-lovers are welcome to bring their own, and a small salad to share. The braais have become quite an institution over the years and are enjoyed by everyone. All are most welcome to attend.

Show of lights

Hindu worshippers are reminded that the annual Diwali Show will be held at the Marburg Sports Complex on Saturday, November 3, preceded by the float procession through Port Shepstone CBD at 9am.

This event always generates huge excitement and is expected to attract quite a crowd. The actual Diwali festival takes place on Wednesday, November 7.

Bon voyage

Kotie Low has gone off on her travels again – this time to visit family and friends in Vereeniging. She is wished an enjoyable time away, with safe travelling.

On the mend

Sylvia Rautenbach has been discharged from hospital after spending several days recovering from what should have been a routine and relatively short procedure. It is hoped that she makes good progress and is up and about again soon. Martin, in the meantime, is enjoying being chief cook and bottle-washer.

Three cheers

Birthday celebrants this week are Linda Porteous and Jannie Oosthuizen (24th), Christelle Lategan (27th), Ann Renfrew (28th), Anna Compion (29th), Andrew Farmer and Bheki Mpunzana (30th) and Mona Steyn and Richard Cole (31st), while anniversaries will be celebrated by Shenda and Ivor Krisch (25th) and Mona and Johan Steyn (26th).
