Illegal pistol found at Gamalakhe tuckshop

The public needs to be cautious when purchasing firearms so that they do not become part of a criminal chain.

Most recently, a police team comprising members of Public Order Police, Saps K9 and Saps Gamalakhe, acted on information about a man (35) who was allegedly in possession of an illegal firearm at a tuckshop in Qinabout, Gamalakhe.

Ugu District Saps Communication said members searched the tuckshop and recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol and six rounds of live ammunition.

The man was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Firearms must be handled responsibly and safely. It is an offence to use a firearm unlawfully, lose a firearm negligently, point a gun at someone and lend or rent out your legal firearm.
