Spar School Stars 2022

Casparus Ndovela is a bright and creative 11 year old boy. He joined Cornerstone Learning Centre at the beginning of 2022, and brought with him an excitement and joy for all things creative.
Casparus is blessed with an artistic ability that spans from paintbrushes to the kitchen.
He enjoys drawing, painting, and baking and never ceases to amaze with his masterpieces.
His engineering prowess also stands out in a crowd, give him Lego blocks or any building material and he’s bound to turn it into a useful and artistic creation.
Casparus’s talents don’t just lie in the art room though, for when you get him on the track he shines.
His favourite is middle distance and he shows great aptitude and eagerness when doing PE.
Casparus has certainly added a colourful joy to our school and we are glad to have him.

Creston College’s Cecilia Rautenbach is an enthusiastic, talented dancer and a dedicated student of Studio 8 Dance School in Margate.
This year, she competed at regional and national levels, and received a high-silver and silver medals for her dancing.
She also received her KZN regional colours. Cecilia is preparing for her International Dance exam, taking place this week.
She is also preparing to perform at her dance studio’s annual showcase to be held later this year at the Wild Coast Sun.
Cecilia has a talent for music- singing and playing the piano.
She has been taking piano and vocal training lessons for over three years and has performed at many concerts.
She is currently practising for her Grade 1 Trinity College of London piano exam.
Cecilia is also a keen horse riding student at Quebella Horse Centre in Paddock and has a passion for horses and animals and loves being outdoors.

Chiedza Chabavu is a Grade 3 learner at Hlanganani Preparatory School.
She is a wonderful example to her classmates as she always respects others and completes her work.
She performs well in all her subjects including isiZulu, which is not her home language.
Chiedza is a pleasure to teach. She is a kind and generous learner who is always polite and shows love to all her classmates including her educator.

Eyethu Shazi is 11 years old and in Grade 6 at St Patrick’s Primary School in Umzinto.
Eyethu is a smart young lady and does well in academics.
She has received awards at school for all her subjects, as she aces them all.
She also plays netball and does well at it and has a medal for being the best centre.
Eyethu says her favourite subjects are Mathematics and Natural Science.
The young achiever says she wants to be a scientist when she grows up, and also intends to play netball professionally.

Keagan Koekemoer is ‘n graad 7 leerder by Suid-Natal Primêre Skool. Keagan is ‘n natuurlike en veelsydige sportman. Hy neem deel aan rugby, krieket, swem, landloop en atletiek en blink uit in elke sportsoort!
Keagan neem deel aan die KZN en Sharks rugby proewe en was ook deel van die span wat na Kroonstad getoer het in Julie vir die Bokkieweek. Hy verteenwoording sy skool se eerste span in rugby en krieket. Keagan is ‘n uitstekende swemmer en neem deel aan die Interlaer swemgala.
Keagan is lief daarvoor om in sy vrye tyd X-box te speel en tyd saam sy vriende en familie te spandeer. Hy is dol oor die buitelewe en is baie avontuurlustig. Hy wil graag eendag ‘n elektroniese ingenieur word.
Keagan se ster gaan nog baie helder skyn in die toekoms!

Lihle Ndwalane is 7 years old, and in Grade 2 at Port Shepstone Primary.
She loves athletics, running to be specific, and she has participated in school games.
Lihle is quiet and shy but loves to perfect everything she does.
Her favourite subjects at school are Mathematics and English.
In her spare time she enjoys watching cartoons and shopping with her mother.
When she grows up she wants to be a doctor.

Luhle Syabonga Nzimande is 10 years old and lives in Bhomela. He is in Grade 4 at Marburg Primary School.
Luhle likes to play fun games and also enjoys watching cartoons.
His favourite sport is running and he won a medal in a marathon where he placed third.
His favourite subject is English and and he has improved a lot over the years because of the cartoons that he watches, which is why he loves watching them.
Luhle says when he grows up he wants to be a pilot or a doctor, and that is the reason he is always trying his best to do well in mathematics, in order to excel at it.

Mongezi Mthembu is 12 years old and in Grade 6 at RA Engar Primary.
He is a well behaved boy, but also a bit shy.
Mongezi enjoys playing cricket. He started playing for a school team in the lower grades, and his love for the sport has grown over the years. The school team he plays for has achieved many awards.
He also produces excellent academic results.
His favourite subjects are Mathametics, Social Science, Natural Science and Technology.
When he grows up he wants to be a doctor, so that he can save lives.

Griffendore Primary School’s Grade 7 learner Ntsika Gqunu aspires to be a surgeon one day.
His inspiration for this choice of career comes from seeing people who are in need of surgical help, those who need operations and others who are suffering as a result of serious accidents but cannot afford surgery. This drives his passion to pursue this particular career path and help those who are unable to help themselves, and provide them with opportunities to live again. His educator Shikar Ramsunder Bechoo sees great potential in Ntsika and believes that he can reach every goal that he sets his mind to. He is a bright learner with an extremely bright future ahead of him.

Port Shepstone Primary’s Cebolenkosi Mlambo (10) is in Grade 4.
He loves soccer and is a big Orlando Pirates supporter.
He has ambitions to one day play for his favourite team.
Cebolenkosi loves Natural Science and Maths because he learns about things that happened many years ago.
He also loves nature.
When he grows up he wants to be a doctor or a soccer player.

Lusanda Njeya (10) is in Grade 4 at Marburg Primary School.
She is quite shy and quiet.
Her favourite subjects are English and history.
Lusanda says when she grows up she wants to be a teacher so she can pass on all the things she has learned and studied.
Her favourite sport is soccer and she says she would love to meet Banyana Banyana one day.

Port Edward Primary’s Grade 7 learner Odeshin Moodley has had a number of achievements this year.
He is the school’s Head Boy and placed fourth in the grade academically.
Odeshin is also an all-rounder on the sports field. He had two top three finishes in inter-schools athletics, as well as placed first at an inter-schools cross country event.
He was also the top athlete for inter-house athletics in the U13 age group.
In team sports, he plays first team hockey, rugby, soccer and cricket.
Odeshin was also the UKZN hockey representative and the U16 representative for KZN shore fishing.
Academically, he is consistently one of the top 5 learners in the grade.

Qalokuhle Nxulu (10) is a learner at Cornerstone Learning Centre.
He is a happy child at school and an excellent artist.
Qalo is very talented at freehand drawings and colouring.
All his friends and teachers enjoy having a peek into his imagination through his art.
English is his favourite subject.
Qalo loves to read books. He enjoys choosing his own book from the library and really becomes involved in the story.
We often hear him laughing out loud or using different voices to flesh out a character.
Qalo is a popular member of his peer group and is a loyal friend.
He always includes his friends when jumping on the trampoline.

Stefan is ‘n Graad 7 leerder van Suid-Natal Primêre Skool. Hy het sterk leiereienskappe en is verkies tot ons skool se leerlingraad.
Stefan is ‘n toegewyde leerder en streef na sukses, hy behaal ‘n jaarlikse akademiese gemiddeld wat vir hom ‘n silwer sertifikaat verower.
Hy is gekies vir die Suid-Natalse 1ste span Rugby. Terwyl hy vir die skool gespeel het, is hy ook gekies om Southern KZN Rugby Academy te verteenwoordig, en hulle het in Mei 2022 op toer gegaan.
Stefan is gekies vir O13 Youth Sharks en sal in Heidelberg aan provinsiale toernooie in die Oktober Skoolvakansie deelneem.
Ons sien uit om te sien wat die lewe vir hierdie skitterende ster inhou.

Tinashe Mnguni is a Grade 3 learner at Hlanganani Preparatory School.
She participates in all spheres of the school, in class and on the sports field.
In class she is a friendly, kind learner who is very aware of her peers.
She is helpful, loving and enjoys sports.
On the sports field she was chosen as a KFC mini cricketer bowler by the selectors.
She always has a smile on her face and is always keeping herself busy.
She is always willing to help wherever she can. She has a beautiful smile that she shares with everyone. Her enthusiastic behaviour inspires her peers.

Liam Bodenstein is a 10 year old learner at Cornerstone Learning Centre.
His fun-loving personality makes him a persistent jokester both in the classroom and on the playground – ensuring that he has no shortage of friends.
When he, begrudgingly, leaves his jokes at the door he becomes a hard-working and perseverant learner who can do anything he puts his mind to.

A people’s person, friendly, caring, loving and someone that is always hard working and positive are the words to best describe Vihaan Ramsumir (7), a Grade 2 learner at Port Shepstone Junior Primary School.
Vihaan has been doing well academically and has obtained an A+ aggregate in both Term 1 and Term 2 Assessments. His favourite subjects are maths and Afrikaans.
He obtained 98% in maths and his love for the subject is what will steer him in the direction of his field of study in becoming a scientist.
Vihaan’s icon and mentor is South Africa’s renowned scientist – Professor Salim Abdool Karim.

Aimee is a Grade 7 learner at Izotsha Primary School.
She was new to the school at the beginning of the year and took to it like a duck to water, fitting in as though she’d been at the school for years.
Aimee is a kind, confident, well-adjusted, committed and mature learner.
She is helpful and has superb manners and is popular among her peers.
She has a good sense of humour and loves to laugh. Aimee achieves both academically and at sport. She plays hockey, netball and soccer and has been selected for both the SKZN swimming and hockey teams.
In her spare time Aimee trains hard for swimming and loves to go shopping.
It disappoints her when she sees people giving up too easily on any given task.

Ceasario, of Rio soos beter bekend aan ons Suidies, is ‘n Graad 6 leerder van Suid-Natal Primêre Skool en behoorlik ‘n krag om mee te reken.
Rio is onlangs gekies vir die Sharks rugby span! Dit is sy droom om eendag ‘n professionele rugbyspeler te wees soos sy held, Springbok speler Cheslin Kolbe.
Rio neem ook graag deel aan sokker, krieket en swem.
Rio behou ‘n goeie akademiese gemiddeld van bo 70%. In sy vrye tyd spandeer hy tyd met sy vriende, speel X-boks en teken.
Ons sien uit om eendag vir Rio met sy springbok trui te sien uithardloop op die veld!

Ayabonga Mncwabe is a Grade 6 learner at Hlanganani Preparatory School with an excellent work ethic.
She always produces work of a high standard.
She works neatly and carefully and is the top achiever in the grade so far this year.
Not only does she excel in the classroom she also achieves on the sports field and represents Hlanganani in the Girls U13 volleyball and soccer teams and culturally as a member of the school choir.
She loves to read and write poetry, is well-liked at school and is an example to other learners.

Lingomso Majozini is an eight-year-old learner in the Blue Class at the Megan Du Plessis Special Needs Centre.
Lingomso comes in every day and greets all the staff with a hug.
Despite the many challenges that he has, he draws well when told what to make, and is imaginative when building things, either with Lego bricks, playdough, or wooden blocks.His creativity even extends to class baking activities.

Thirteen year old Teighlon Colwyn Fynn is a Grade 8 learner at Port Shepstone Secondary School.
He started his karate training at novice level at the tender age of seven.
This committed lad has competed in several provincial and national tournaments, the most recent was held in Cape Town last month where he was awarded silver for Kumite and gold for Kata.
His diligence towards martial arts secured him a position in the KZN Karate Elite team.
Teighlon is optimistic about attaining the highest belt in the karate hierarchy.

Port Shepstone Secondary’s matriculant Amahle Mqadi stands out as she has excellent communication skills, and was commended at the IsiZulu Speech Contest for being both eloquent and articulate.
Her highly imaginative mind earned her a silver award in the De Beers English Olympiad.
Recently she was nominated to the Representative Council of Learners (RCL) because of her strong leadership abilities coupled with a bubbly personality. She is a member of the school’s Interact Club and is a budding scientist and she and her team were victorious at a Life Sciences Bioterminologious District Competition.
Amahle says she would like to pursue a career in the legal field and her ambition is two-fold as she is focused on obtaining a PhD to secure a position as a Judge in High Court in the future.

Sy is ook gekies vir 2023 prefekte.
Camilla Anderson van Graad 11 het saam ander leerling Saterdag 4 September in Pietermaritzburg aan die Provinsiale byeenkoms deelgeneem.
Camilla het 1ste in die Hamer, Diskus, Gewigstoot en Spiesgooi geëindig en ook ‘n nuwe rekord vir haar Hamergooi aangeteken.
Sy is ook as die Senior Victrix Ludorum van die dag aangewys.
Met baie trots van Suidieland.

Grade 8 learner at Creston College, Jadon Klue has been selected for the KZN U14 Youth Sharks Rugby team.
He has a passion for rugby and has always loved the game.
He enjoys all kinds of sport and gives off his best every time.
He has learned that sport does not only take talent but also commitment, determination, and hard work. You must try and try again…giving up is not an option.
Exercise is essential for balance in a young mans’ life.
Jadon thanks the Warriors Rugby Club, his school, his coaches and his family and friends for their training, encouragement and support, and most of all to God his anchor in life.

Lifa Malinga is 13 years old and in Grade 8 at Marburg Secondary School.
Lifa is a little bit shy but very humble and focused.
His favourite subjects are Maths and Science.
He says when he grows up he wants to be a forensic scientist.
Lifa enjoys watching the crime channels on TV because they are informative, and he sees himself solving cases one day.
His favourite sport is rugby and he says that his body well-built for it.

Port Shepstone High School’s Grade 10 learner, Neharika Sugudhav, is a great example of the calibre of learners which the school is proud to produce.
This bubbly, young born leader is a Representative Council of Learners (RCL) member and her inner strength and encouraging nature is evident in her leadership style.
She is always willing to assist anyone in need.
Despite her small stature, Neharika has a giant entrepreneurial spirit. She began her own business, Baking by Neha, in 2021 while in lockdown.
She found her joy by baking for family members and pushed herself to learn and expand her skillset. Her talents were quickly recognised and word spread quickly, helping her home business to expand at a rapid pace. Neharika has also been nominated for a Live Your Dreams SA (LYD SA) Awards for 2022, in the Best TV Presenter category.
She wishes to study broadcast journalism and this nomination is proof that she is on the right track.
She is a focused and dedicated young lady who has a bright future ahead of her.

An avid reader, Ethan Neil Naicker is a Grade 9 learner at Port Shepstone Secondary, and has an affinity towards his core subjects.
His strong traits include an earnest commitment towards his academics. This conscientious work ethic coupled with his disposition as a philomath has secured him top ranking in all grades at both primary and secondary school.
In Grade 3 he won the Spellathon organised by the Umbango River Conservancy, this put him in good stead in Grade 6 when he participated at District level and then again in Grade 9 when he was placed first in the General Knowledge and Spellathon Competition (junior category organised by the Rotary Club).
In Grade 6 he represented his school, district, circuit and province in a Mental Mathematics competition where he ranked second and obtained a 90% aggregate.

Hoërskool Suid Natal’s Liandie du Toit is an outstanding all-round performer in athletics, hockey and cross-country.
She was chosen for the Ugu District athletics/cross-country team 2022 – KZN championships in Pietermaritzburg.
Liandie always performs her best in academics – Dux learner of 2020-2021 – so far for 2022 she has been number one of the top 10 learners in Grade 11, and she also participated in Con Spirito and Eisteddfod.
Her words of advice are: “I really want to make the school a place where everyone enjoys it and it is not a punishment. I have enjoyed my entire school career by participating in so many things as possible and tackling them with passion. I want to motivate the learners and show what it is to be part of the school’s spirit”.
