Ensure that you fit the right tyres for your car
Roll resistance, the types of road surface and the correct tyre pressure are but some of the things that will influence your fuel consumption.
The holiday season is upon us and the cost of fuel certainly requires a substantial part of the holiday budget. We cannot do much about the latter though but it is important to know that there are things one can do to ensure optimum fuel efficiency.
Your driving style, in particular, can make a substantial difference in terms of your fuel spend. Don’t be fooled by the fuel index numbers supplied by manufacturers – calculate your fuel consumption between filling your tank to get the real numbers for your car.
Your tyre pressure and wheel alignment is important also. “All tyres are not equal and choosing the right tyre can have an immense impact on the vehicle’s fuel efficiency and impact on the environment, says Ary Coetzee, technical manager – consumer replacement (sales) at Bridgestone South Africa.
“The fuel price goes up and down, but there’s no doubt that South African motorists are really feeling the pinch. The good news is that by choosing from the current range of Turanza T005 tyres they can increase fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance – and also reduce their environmental impact,” he says. “Bridgestone’s huge investments in R&D have created a tyre that truly ticks all the boxes for modern-day, aware motorists.”
The Turanza T005 tyres are made with Nano Pro-TechTM rubber. “Its construction is controlled on a molecular level, reduced rolling resistance is achieved, which means reduced fuel per unit of forward motion and a 4.3% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to other tyres.”
“It’s not widely known that the majority of the lifetime emissions attributable to a tyre, 87%, arise during its useful life, not during its manufacture,” Coetzee adds.
Other than rendering a better driving experience across a range of road conditions, the tyre also shortens braking distances in the wet by 9%.
Turanza T005 are available for both cars, 4x4s and SUVs.
