Isipingo businessman arrested for illegally selling paraffin

The businessman was also fined by the fire department for illegal usage of the premises as per the certificate and storing or handling dangerous goods without the proper requirements.

AN ISIPINGO businessman was arrested recently for allegedly selling paraffin without a permit and was released on bail by the Durban Magistrate’s Court on May 17.

Selvan Ince (55) was arrested three days ago during a joint raid at his business premises by the Hawks, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, and the Customs Road Fuel Testing Unit. KZN Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said that information about a suspect dealing in fuel had been received, and a joint operation was conducted.

“Upon arrival, they found two tankers offloading paraffin in the premises. The owner of the premises (Ince) informed the members that he had been operating this business since last year. The fire department fined him R10 000 for illegal usage of the premises as per the certificate and storing or handling dangerous goods without the proper requirements,” said Mhlongo.

The tanker’s delivery driver was fined R5 000 for conducting an illegal delivery. Ince was charged for conducting a fuel business without a permit. The Durban Magistrate’s Court released him on a R1 000 bail, and the matter was postponed to June 27.
