Toti cricketers return to form with 181 run win

The Amanzimtoti Cricket Club put on a clinic against Harlequins Cricket Club, returning to their form during their undefeated streak.

AFTER a close loss in their last clash, the Amanzimtoti Cricket Club (ACC) first team put on a masterful showing against Harlequins Cricket Club at the Amanzimtoti Oval on March 9.

After winning the toss, Tegan Naidoo elected to bat first and ACC’s opening batsmen, Tylor Trenoweth and Jarryd Michaux were a stone wall and the opposing bowlers went wicket-less.

Club scribe, Peter Lonie, said, “The first 10 over power-play added 76. Trenoweth crossed 50 and was dismissed with his score on 73 and the team score on 96. Michaux kept up the momentum until he was dismissed for 44. But it was the 138 run partnership between Corné Nel and Gareth Lonie which really took the match away from the opposition. Nel and Lonie took the score from 162 in the 35th over to a final tally of 300/3 after 50 overs. The pair’s running between the wickets was particularly impressive. Nel and Lonie were both undefeated at the end of ACC’s innings on 49 and 95 respectively.”

On the opposing side, Harlequins CC lost their first wicket in the 5th over and were 39/1 at the end of the first 10 over power play with Rob Ackermann (1/13) claiming the wicket.

Lonie added, “Three wickets from Muhammad Khan (3/15) left the visitors in trouble at 55/4 and behind the required run-rate. A wicket each for Dylan Labuschagne (1/10) and Michaux (1/13) and three for Lonie (3/16) had Harlequins nine down before Jared Havemann (1/17) claimed the last wicket in the 36th over with Harlequins’ run tally on 119, handing ACC a 181 run victory with a bonus point.”
