National champion An-Li Kachelhoffer took second place in the women's road race on Thursday, wrapping up South Africa's campaign at the African Road Cycling Championships in Benslimane, Morocco.

The SA team earned three medals at the annual championships.

Earlier in the week, Kachelhoffer had joined compatriots Samantha Sanders, Lise Olivier and Anriette Schoeman in securing the gold medal in the team time trial.

Sanders went on to bag bronze in the individual time trial.

While the four-member SA squad – represented only in the elite women’s division – stepped on the podium in all three events they contested, their opposition gave an indication of improved performance levels across the continent.

In the absence of SA rider Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, who had dominated both events in recent years, Namibian Vera Adrian secured the road race and time trial titles.

Promising 20-year-old rider Jeanne D’arc Girubuntu of Rwanda charged to silver in the individual time trial, and Kim le Court of Mauritius pocketed bronze in the road race.
