Henri Schoeman led the local charge on Sunday, taking sixth place in the elite men’s race at the third leg of the World Triathlon Series in Cape Town.
In the absence of injured SA No 1 Richard Murray, Schoeman completed the sprint event in 54:40, achieving his first top-10 finish of the 2016 series.
He crossed the line less than half a minute behind Spaniard Fernando Alarza, and just 17 seconds outside a podium place.
Fellow South African Wian Sullwald ended 30th in his top-flight season debut, with Basson Engelbrecht finishing 44th overall.
In the elite women’s race, Mari Rabie took 17th spot in 1:00:53, a little more than a minute behind British winner Non Stanford.
Gillian Sanders was the only other SA athlete to finish the race, settling for 39th position.
