Lone SA rider Stefan de Bod was unable to put up a fight on Thursday, trailing home in 85th place in the men's Under-23 road race at the Road Cycling World Championships in Doha.

After finishing 11th in the individual time trial earlier in the week, De Bod was left stranded without support in a bunch sprint, crossing the line 42 seconds behind Norwegian winner Kristoffer Halvorsen.

After five days of competition at the annual championships, South African riders had raked in two medals, with Daryl Impey and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio grabbing bronze with their respective trade outfits in the team time trials. The junior men’s and women’s road races were set to be held on Friday, with the elite men’s and women’s contests taking place this weekend.
