Ackermann to rethink policy

After the Lions crashed to a 38-8 loss to the Chiefs in Hamilton in their opening Super Rugby tour game last weekend, Ackermann will rethink his refreshing idea of giving all 27 players game time on tour.

Ackermann said there was nothing wrong with their intensity going into the game, but rather their decision-making in pressure situations.

“There certainly wasn’t an issue motivating players going into a game against a two-time champion outfit,” said Ackermann.

“The group was very excited being on tour, but the reality is that 17 players are on their first tour, so it’s very much an issue of growing as a unit and a team.” Putting the loss behind them will be equally important as they prepare for their next outing against the Highlanders in Dunedin this weekend.

The Lions haven’t faced the Islanders since 2011 when they surprised them 26-22 in Dunedin in what was then a historic first win at the then House of Pain.
