Pollard a surprise Bok choice

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer surprised this morning by naming Handre Pollard at flyhalf for this weekend's All Black Test in Wellington.

Pollard replaces Morne Steyn, who has been dropped from the match 23 altogether, with reserve No 10 Pat Lambie retaining the spot on the bench which he also occupied in the 24-23 loss to the Wallabies in Perth last weekend.

It was the only change Meyer made to the Springbok side who are seeking their first win on Kiwi soil since 2009 and their first over the All Blacks since they beat them 18-5 in Port Elizabeth in 2011.

The musical chairs with his No 10s are continuing after Pollard started the two Tests against Argentina but was then displaced by Steyn for the Wallaby Test last weekend as Meyer insisted at the time he was looking for more experience.

But now Steyn’s misguided kick – he failed to find touch after a penalty which lead to the Wallabies’ match-winning try by wing Rob Horne – has counted against him.
