Lions flanker Jaco Kriel has passed his fitness test and will start against Western Province on Saturday at Ellis Park.

Kriel injured his calf during training on Tuesday and was put through a tough session earlier Friday afternoon before giving the green light by Lions head coach Johan Ackermann.

That means Warwick Teckenburg will move down to the bench while Stephan de Wit drops out of the match 22.

Kriel will also act as vice-captain to skipper Lionel Mapoe and will communicate with referee Jaco Peyper with calls closer to the rucks and mauls.
