Sanity prevails at Cheetahs

You could say sanity has prevailed when the Cheetahs decided today to leave contracted Springbok prop Coenie Oosthuizen out of their Currie Cup squad.

Oosthuizen, as one of the 20 contracted Bok players, has been denied further participation in the Currie Cup under an agreement between SA Rugby and the provincial unions.

But earlier this week, the Cheetahs still hadn’t received formal notification which prevented Oosthuizen from playing in the Currie Cup against the Lions at Ellis Park this weekend.

on Wednesday however, they named Caylib Oosthuizen in Oosthuizen’s place.

But other non-contracted current Boks are still allowed to play this weekend, like Handre Pollard, Oupa Mohoje, Lood de Jager, Cobus Reinach and Trevor Nyakane.

Cheetahs: Clayton Blommetjies, AJ Coertzen, JP du Plessis, Joubert Engelbrecht, Raymond Rhule, Willie du Plessis, Sarel Pretorius, Lappies Labuschagne, Teboho Mohoje, Tienie Burger, Francois Uys, Lood de Jager, Trevor Nyakane, Torsten van Jaarsveld (capt), Caylib Oosthuizen.

Bench: Hercu Liebenberg, George Marich, Henco Venter, Neil Claassen, Shaun Venter, Pieter-Steyn de Wet, Maphutha Dolo.
