Captain and No 8 Warren Whiteley and flyhalf Marnitz Boshoff both became Boks this year after receiving game time off the bench, however it was their experience of spending time with the national squad which has benefited them the most.

“Both Warren and Marnitz had to go through some difficult times in their careers before finally getting the just reward for their hard work,” said Ackermann.

“They have also added great value to the rest of the squad here at the Lions. It’s always great to experience what’s it like at the highest level.

“We have however a few more players here at the Lions who wouldn’t let an international side down.”

The Lions host the Cheetahs at Ellis Park on Saturday in their final Currie Cup clash before the play-offs and a win will see them hosting defending champions the Sharks next weekend.
