Mission accomplished for elated Lions coach

It was mission accomplished for elated Lions coach Johan Ackermann at Eliis Park on Saturday after their ruthless 47-7 Currie Cup win over the Cheetahs.

With the win they confirmed home ground advantage in the semifinals next weekend against the Sharks.
“I am very proud of the guys, there was pressure to again play here next weekend and there were good signs on both attack and defence,” said Ackermann.
“The big thing however is to do it again next week. It’s no use if we can’t do it next week.
Today was like a quarterfinal, but next weekend we are up against the Sharks who are after all the defending champions and who have beaten us just last weekend,” said Ackermann.
Running in six tries against one and building on their halftime lead of 22-0, Ackermann said it was pleasing how the team remained focused.
“The calmness they exposed when getting close to the Cheetahs goalline and getting the points were pleasing and I think we played close to the entire 80 minutes with sustained focus,” he said.
