Kwagga back for the Lions

Golden Lions head coach Johan Ackermann has named his 22-man side to take on the Sharks in an Absa Currie Cup semi-final at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Ackermann has opted largely for consistency going into the match, making just one change to the team which beat the Free State Cheetahs 47-7 last weekend.

The single change sees flank Kwagga Smith included as cover off the bench, with the unlucky player to lose his place prop Jacques van Rooyen.

“It is unfortunate for Jacques who has provided some valuable contributions for us from the bench during the last couple of matches providing the necessary impact, but Kwagga has made a big difference for us whenever he has come on and he is also able to cover several positions,” said Ackermann.

Golden Lions: Jaco van der Walt; Ruan Combrinck, Lionel Mapoe, Howard Mnisi, Courtnall Skosan; Marnitz Boshoff, Ross Cronje; Warren Whiteley (capt), Derick Minnie, Jaco Kriel, Franco Mostert, Martin Muller, Ruan Dreyer, Robbie Coetzee, Schalk van der Merwe. Bench: Armand van der Merwe, Julian Redelinghuys, Willie Britz, Warwick Tecklenburg, Kwagga Smith, Mark Richards, Harold Vorster.
