At hooker, young Malcolm Marx is a surprise inclusion ahead of Akker van der Merwe who will start off the bench, while flyhalf Elton jantjies has also been named on the bench after returning from Japan.

Three players were unavailable, namely lock MB Lusaseni (ankle), hooker Robbie Coetzee (neck) and prop Julian Redelinghuys (hamstring).

“Although we played just one warm-up match the players are match fit and ready for the first game, but we’ll know it will be a big challenge as the Hurricanes are always full of running with All Blacks like Conrad Smith, Julian Savea and Corey Jane,” said Ackermann.

The match will get under way at 7.10pm local time at Emirates Airline Park.
