But in affect it’s only three, as lock Franco van der Merwe and centre Juan de Jongh were not part of the Springbok squad for the away leg and played for the Lions and Western Province respectively last weekend.

The five players are Van der Merwe (Golden Lions), flank Marcell Coetzee (Sharks), De Jongh (WP), wing Bjorn Basson (Blue Bulls) and scrumhalf Piet van Zyl (Free State Cheetahs).

The Springboks will start their on-field preparations on Monday for next Saturday’s Test against Australia at Newlands.

“We have two crucial matches ahead and we will have to work very hard if we are to keep alive our chances of winning the Rugby Championship,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.

With scrumhalf Fourie du Preez again available for the home Tests, he replaces Van Zyl in the squad for the last two home matches in the Rugby Championship – at Newlands and Ellis Park.

The remaining members of the squad will gather in Cape Town on Friday, where the injury situation will be assessed.

A final call on any possible changes to the squad will be made by Sunday.
