Baa Baas bagful of Boks

Rudolph Jacobs

Rest? What rest? After all the pleas that have been made for the top players to be managed because of too much rugby on their agendas, another game has been fitted into the over-busy calendar.

But this is just no ordinary game and when you get an invitation to wear the coveted Barbarians jersey you simply don’t say no.

After six Springboks were originally invited to join the Barbarians squad for a game against Fiji in London on November 30, the list has now grown to nine.

The invited Boks are Coenie Oosthuizen, Duane Vermeulen, Patrick Lambie, Willie le Roux, Jean de Villiers and Schalk Burger, while three more – Eben Etzebeth, Bismarck du Plessis and Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira, left, – have also accepted invitations.

The match is to celebrate the 100 years existence of Fijian rugby and comes only a week after the final Bok Test on tour against France in Paris on November 23.

The Baa-Baas will be coached by the All Black mentor Steve Hansen, with the full squad yet to be announced, but it has been learned that five New Zealanders have also been invited.
