Platinum Stars striker Ndumiso Mabena says it was important for him to perform at his best against Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night, to make sure that he cements his place in the team’s starting XI.

Mabena scored a brace for Dikwena, which was more than enough to seal a 2-0 victory for Dikwena at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

“It was a difficult game for me coming from a three-game suspension and coming straight back into the starting line-up. But I’m happy with the performance, the boys did well today,” said Mabena, after being named Man-of-the-Match.

The striker added that they sat back after their first goal, which allowed Chiefs to put pressure on them, but they managed to get the second goal.

“We got the first goal we wanted, then sat back a little, allowing them to come at us. But I am happy that we didn’t concede in the first half and eventually in the second half we came back and got the second goal which cemented the victory.”
