The 25-year-old Belgian based striker was a surprise inclusion when Mashaba announced his squad on Thursday morning at a media conference at Safa House.
“We have been monitoring him since he was at Nottingham, he has since moved to Belgium. He is a good striker, big lad, busy in the box… (he) can hold the ball and can score as well. So we felt we needed to bring him in for this camp,” said Mashaba.
Although Veldwijk was born in Netherlands and has never set foot in South Africa, he is eligible to play for Bafana because his father was born here.
Bafana host the Lions of Teranga at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on December 12 and an unnamed opponent three days later in a friendly.
