Nzambe was stretched off in the match which was played under wet conditions at Sugar ray Xulu Stadium in Cleremont outside Durban.
The 25-year-old Gabonese international sustained a fractured skull, and the club have confirmed that the left back is currently under intensive care.
“Stevy Nzambe sustained a fractured skull. He’s currently in ICU for further observation and monitoring,” said Usuthu’s physio, Karel Du Toit.
Nzambe plays for the Gabon senior national team and has previously played for France team, Marseille’s reserve team. His injury could cost him a place in the Gabon team for next year’s Caf African Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Du toit said the other player who was also stretched off in an eventful match where AmaZulu had two players sent off within minutes of each other in the first half, Sibongiseni Mthembu will also take some time to recover.
“Fani Fani (Mthembu) sustained a tibia shaft fracture, and had an operation Tuesday morning. We hope that he will have a speedy recovery,” said Du Toit.
