Super Eagles appoint Spanish coach

National First Division side Super Eagles FC have appointed Spanish coach Antonio Jesus Flores as the new head coach of the team.

Flores replaces Tshegofatso Mashego, who has been demoted following a poor start to the season that saw the team winning just two of their first 10 league matches.

According to a statement posted on the club’s Facebook account, Flores has Spanish level 3 coaching football licence, Euro Pro licence and CAF B certificate.

“He started his coaching career at his home country Spain with UD Almeria, CD Roquetas and AD Polideportivo Aguadulce.

In 2015, he coached Uganda outift SC Villa then moved to Algeria to coach Sarl Start Foot Algerie. In 2017, he was also appointed head coach of Sandawana and helped them survive relegation.

“Before joining Super Eagles, he was technical cirector at Lioli FC. Antonio has been around Africa and managed to play three cup finals in Uganda in 2015 EID Cup, FUFA Super Cup and Independence Cup all with SC Villa,” the statement continued.

Eagles will next face Cape Town All Stars at home on Sunday, and if Flores manages to get his work permit on time, this could be his first game in charge of the team.
