Fringe players give Komphela a headache

On Tuesday night Steve Komphela made a total of four changes to the Kaizer Chiefs team that lost to Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

Kgotso Moleko, Lucky Baloyi, Hendrick Ekstein and veteran Bernard Parker were given the green light to face Golden Arrows.

The fringe players made an immediate impact in midfield constantly exploiting spaces behind defenders and allowing the strikers to test the Arrows keeper.
Komphela sent a strong message to underperforming stars that many believe have grown complacent due to feeling indispensable.

Tuesday night was the first time Siphiwe Tshabalala and Reneilwe Letsholonyane didn’t feature for Chiefs in a league game since 2012.

“Tonight’s game showed the quality and the depth we have in our squad,” said Komphela after the match.

The dreadlocked duo will command the midfield, Siboniso Gaxa will be reinstated at right back and Camaldine Abraw makes a swift return to the starting XI. “

Komphela’s brave decision to drop some players in midweek could see his regular XI return to form in a bid to prove their worth to the team.
