Hunt getting the best out of Mahlambi

Bidvest Wits youngster Phakamani Mahlambi put on a stellar performance for the Clever Boys against Jomo Cosmos on Sunday evening.

Mahlambi, a product of Wits development, left Thato Sithole and his Cosmos defensive partners for dead and providing assists, one resulting in the third goal tucked away by Sibusiso Vilakazi.

He is a special player who takes on defenders and forcing them into committing fouls outside the penalty box, allowing Daine Klate to test the keeper from set pieces.

Gavin Hunt spoke highly of the player a few weeks ago and Hunt’s words are like a prophecy of the youngster’s form so far.

“This boy can beat people in small areas, which we saw… he’s got unbelievable ability. He can score … he can really score,” said Hunt in an interview with the media at the time.

Hunt has faith in Mahlambi and believes he is better than South Africa’s most decorated player, Benni McCarthy.

Do you think Mahlambi is a future super striker for South Africa?
