We have all been victims of crime in South Africa, celebrities are no exception judging by the string of football players who have stood in front of a gun barrel.

The name of late Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa comes to mind first, as he lost his life in what was reported to be a robbery.

Erick Mathoho

The Bafana Bafana defender is the latest victim of crime, Mathoho was robbed of his possessions before the suspects made off with his car in Atteridgeville on Monday night. His car was later recovered by the Police using a helicopter.

Benni McCarthy

The former Orlando Pirates striker was robbed at gunpoint while he was visiting a salon in Johannesburg. McCarthy went to the salon for his hairdo after landing at the OR Tambo International airport ahead of a television appearance later that evening. Benni was asked to hand over his earrings, watch and wedding ring, no one in the salon was hurt.

Bongani Khumalo

SuperSport United defender bongani Khumalo lost his possessions while playing in England for League One side Colchester. The former Bafana Bafana captain was on loan from Tottenham Hotspur at the time.  “All my possessions had been taken including some sentimental items, one being a Bible that my late mother left me,” he told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website after the incident.

Ayanda Patosi

Lokeren midfielder Ayanda Patosi was hijacked. Patosi was in Gugulethu in Cape Town at the time of the incident. The midfielder was visiting South Africa during the season break. Patosi managed to get out of the car and survived the hijacking.
