Mark Mayambela’s younger brother, Mabhuti has inspired National First Division team, Cape Town All Stars to a 2-1 win over Premier Soccer League rivals, Ajax Cape Town in a friendly game on Friday morning.
Mabhuti scored the first goal early in the first half to give his team a 1-0 lead going into the break. Nathan Paulse then equalised for the Urban Warriors in the second half, but Tshwarelo Bereng ensured the NFD team gets the win with a goal in the last minute of the game.
The friendly saw Ajax mentor, Roger de Sa playing against his former assistant, Ian Taylor who has taken over at All Stars as head coach, replacing Daniel “Dance” Malesela who is now at Chippa United.
Although a friendly, the game was played at high pace and both teams looked serious about getting a win. All Stars will be hoping to keep the momentum going as they have set themselves as early favourites for the promotion at the end of the season.
Stars are currently third on the log with 23 points from 12 games and will play Vasco Da Gama on December 20 in their last game of the year.
Taylor told the PSL’s website that the challenge of standing on his own is what attracted him to the Stars job.
“The main thing is that I will be in charge. I will be able to implement my own plans, my own training programs. With the team in the position it is, it is an exciting challenge.
“At PSL level the assistant does not get to do that much coaching, and it’s for this reason that I felt I needed to leave Ajax, as I wanted to spend more time coaching on the field,” said Taylor.
