New Maritzburg coach Ernst Middendorp is confident that he can save the Team of Choice from getting relegated at the end of the season.

Come May 21, Maritzburg United will still be a Premier Soccer League team. This is a bold statement made by new Maritzburg coach, Ernst Middendorp as he readies his troops for a trip to Pretoria where they face SuperSport United.

The German mentor has been tasked with saving the Pietermaritzburg based team from relegation. The Team of Choice are currently bottom of the standings in the Premiership with six points from 12 games.

Maritzburg have already parted ways with two coaches this season and their management is said to be really worried about the demise facing the team.

But Middendorp is not panicking and sounded confident in his ability to lift the team out of the rut it finds itself in.

“Out of our experience working together in the last years we know each other. The main focus from my side is the way forward – to make it happen that on 21 May 2016, the team is in the PSL and that is my focus,” said Middendorp.

The much-travelled coach added that he has enough quality players in his team to make it work.

Maritzburg have some experienced campaigners in Kurt Lenjties, John Pantsil, David Booysen and Manti Mekoa.

The team also have some enterprising and promising youngsters in Ryan De Jongh, Deolin Mekoa, Mphakamiseni Nene and Siyabulela Shai.
