Khumalo joined Matsatsantsa at the beginning of the 2015/2016 season when he moved back home from Europe after he failed to secure a contract overseas. Khumalo has decided to leave the club after spending half a season in Pretoria.
“Bongani Khumalo is a high profile player and he was unlucky because he was going through a bad patch and he got sick on the one day and I changed my team around. Denwin Farmer has been doing well at the moment, this has led to Bongani not getting regular game time,” said Igesund.
The former Bafana Bafana coach says Khumalo had a clause in his contract that allowed him to be released by the club. Following the defender’s sudden exit, Igesund admits that they are monitoring a few players as he feels there are positions that need strengthening.
“There are a couple of player we could be interested in but it’s not a matter of agency to try and replace Khumalo at the moment, but there are one or two areas that we might beef up. Obviously I can’t mention names right now,” said Igesund.
