SA youngster signs new contract with Leicester

The 19-year-old forward has signed on for a further three-and-a-half years.

South African-born forward Khanya Leshabela has signed a new deal at Leicester City that commits his future to the club until 2022.

Having joined the club in 2013, progressing through to the Under-23s.

He featured as an unused substitute for City in the Carabao Cup against Southampton earlier this season and has impressed in the under-23s under Steve Beaglehole.

“I’ve worked hard to get this, and I’m just grateful to be given such an opportunity,” Leshabela told the club’s website.

“This is the hard bit right now! I’m just looking to push forward and push into the first team.

“It’s gone really quick. It literally just flies by. It’s been a good journey, and I just want to stay in the game for many years.”

Leshabela is one of a handful of South African-born youngsters plying their trade in the youth ranks of EPL outfits, with the likes of Siph Mdlalose of Southampton, Crystal Palace’s Nikola Tavares and Tyrique Bartlett – son of Bafana legend, Shaun.
