Springs corporate rivals play to a draw

Mpact and Impala Plats played to 3-3 draw on Friday afternoon.

Local soccer club Springs Corporate League (SCL) hosted the current league champions, Mpact, and the current top-leading team, Impala Plats, on Friday afternoon.

Mpact won the Champions Cup last season with Impala in the last position. However, the tables have seemingly turned because Impala currently leads the log and threatens to win the current season.

With a record to set, both teams played to a competitive draw of 3-3. Impala’s team manager, Ndumiso Maphalala said the match was what they expected – competitive.

“Mpact has always been our rivals, and we knew they would arm themselves with tackle since we are a threat since leading,” said Maphalala.

“However, we were prepared for the day, understanding that we had a score to settle since they knocked us out of the cup competition.

“Meeting them for the first time in the league match was a dedicated appointment for us to give it our all.”

Maphalala said they aimed to win, but warmly accepted the draw, understanding the type of team they were playing against. Mpact captain Cedric Miranda said the match was exciting and intense.

“It was very competitive, with all players trying to get a win on both teams, even though the decisions were poor from the referees,” said Miranda.

“With us ranked eighth in the log, we really needed to win this match to catch up.”

SCL will host several matches on May 24.
