Suspect nabbed for unlicensed firearm and ammunition

The firearm will undergo ballistic testing to ascertain its potential involvement in other criminal activities.

MEYERTON. – A suspect was arrested in Boundary Road on Wednesday 1 May after having been found in possession of an illegal firearm and 45 rounds of ammunition.

According to police spokesperson, Const. Tlaleng Moloi, the Meyerton crime prevention team under the command of Warrant Officer Phakathi received information about the man who was in possession of a firearm in Boundary Road in the Ophir Estate policing area.

An intelligence-driven operation was carried out by members of the police, which resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old male.

Moloi said the suspect would appear in the Meyerton Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
