Zero tolerance for outstanding accounts

“Residents who can’t afford to pay for services have a responsibility to register and apply for indigent benefit to assist ELM to achieve service delivery targets," said MMC Mako.

VANDERBIJLPARK – The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) advises consumers whose municipal accounts are in arrears of strict measures against overdue payments.

This includes residential consumers, businesses, and government departments. Payment of municipal accounts is essential to allow the municipality to fund required community services like water, sanitation, waste removal, street lighting, and infrastructure maintenance while ensuring a sustainable living environment for all.

ELM will persevere in its conviction to eradicate a culture of non-payment in all communities.

Customers wishing to pay their municipal accounts can use one of the following methods:

Walk in: Visit the Customer Care Office and pay in person, particularly if you are already late with your payment.

The OK Building Customer Care Office is located at 74 President Kruger Street in Vanderbijlpark and is open weekdays from 08:00-15:30.

Direct Debit: Visit ELM offices to collect and complete the application form.

Easy Pay: Use EasyPay facilities at any Checkers, Pick n Pay and Woolworths. Use your monthly account statement as reference.

Electronic payment: Use the following details for EFT, ATM and Telephone Banking, or direct bank deposits.

Banking details: First National Bank (FNB) Account No. 62865705746, Business Current Account. Reference the 8-digit municipal account numbers starting with 1 and 2.

“Residents must take responsibility for their municipal accounts. Accounts that are owing for 90 days and more are advised to take advantage of the debt rehabilitation scheme the municipality is currently implementing,” MMC Hassan Mako said.

“Residents who can’t afford to pay for services have a responsibility to register and apply for indigent benefit to assist ELM to achieve service delivery targets. No one will be spared,” Mako warned.

“Our by-law department and SAPS will be on stand-by for any illegal reconnections that may happen post credit control. Not only shall we issue fines but we‘ll also remove electricity cables.”

According to Mako, optimal service delivery can only be achieved by a municipality with responsible paying customers.

“We remain relentless in our quest of turning ELM around for the benefit of all residents,” Mako concluded.
