She encouraged the students to bring change in their families and the community of Phola. She related a brief history of the school, Makause Combined School. She said it all started in 2006 while she was in mayoral committee leading the development planning relocation programme. She reminded the students that they were being skilled and they should be grateful for that.

“From now onwards 45 homes will see a change, this is a good start and go on to further your education. I am very passionate about skills development as this empowers our communities. You need to know that you are now in demand and this must not stop now. This is a key to a better future and I am happy that even women will be empowered in the male dominated industry, invite other women and empower them as well. Empowering a woman is empowering a nation,” stated the executive mayor of eMalahleni Cllr Lindiwe Ntshalintshali.

“Directly or indirectly the communities benefit by government interventions in partnership with the private sector. Skills hubs are now brought closer to the community to use them. God has sent a new hand to be the light, be the role models and be part of the community development. Together we can bring a change into our lives and make Phola a better place,” concluded the mayor.

The students were presented with kits as a start to their chosen careers.
