Ogies features in MEC’s Excellence Awards

Ogies Police Station was awarded for their hard work and dedication at the annual MEC’s Excellence Awards Ceremony hosted by Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe.

Ogies Police Station was named second runner up, in the category best performing station managed by captain to lieutenant colonel, best station managed by colonel and higher and station with best functioning Community Policing Forum (CPF).

The awards, which saw the province’s 86 police stations taking part, were recognition of excellence displayed by police stations for the financial year 2012/2013.

The MEC’s Excellence Awards are presented every year by the department to best performing stations in the province after conducting a thorough evaluation exercise involving departmental officials and members of the CPFs.

Machadodorp Station also came out tops in categories such as Best Station Managed by Captain to Lieutenant Colonel, the Station with the best functioning CPF.

MEC Shongwe said that only disciplined members are needed in the police service and he called on those who are doing the opposite, to freely leave the service, before they are removed. He explained that those who are not upholding high levels of morality and integrity tarnish the good work of those who are working hard to bring an end to criminality in communities.

“We cannot accommodate laziness, slow delivery of services and a poor sense of urgency that robs our people of decent services. Our commitment towards ensuring that all South African are secure and feel safe in their homes, their places of work and their communities and in their own streets cannot be over emphasised,” the MEC said.

The department’s Traffic Intervention Unit and South African Police Service’s Tactical Response Team (TRT) also received MEC’s Special Awards for their work in crime prevention and enhancing road safety in the province.
