Commuters ride free on Mandela Day
Commuters from Hlalanikahe were surprised when they boarded Nkosi’s taxi on Mandela Day.
The commuters were surprised to learn that they will have a free ride to the destination of their choice since it was July 18, Mandela’s birthday. The five taxis were ferrying commuters from Halanikahle taxi rank to different destinations like Klipfontein, Reyno Ridge and other areas.
Mr Albert Nkosi said he is doing this to say thank you for the support he was getting from the people. He said he started this gesture in 2010 and every year during this day people get a free ride.
“I want to contribute by doing my part to show love that Mandela showed when he was still alive. This is my part of contributing 67 minutes of giving back to the community. I will always remember this day as a long as I live.”
Nkosi branched into the industry as a driver in 1986, owned his first taxi in 2001 and now owns five taxis and a 22-seater bus.
