Pietermaritzburg police dog handler, Morne Croeser has been jailed for 23 years for the brutal murder of his wife, Erika.

The court found he stabbed her 14 times in the neck and face at their Albert Falls home in early hours of August 28, 2010. Judge Esther Steyn also refused Croeser leave to appeal his conviction and sentence.

Defence advocate Murray Pitman requested the court to grant Croeser bail pending a petition to the supreme court of appeals but Judge Steyn said the bail application was premature. The court would deal with it only once it has been properly lodged. Erika Croesers family said they are delighted with the sentence even though it cannot bring her back.
