TWO men who were arrested recently in the Eastern Cape appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with a R206 000 cash-in-transit heist from a garage in Edendale Road on March 31 last year.

The two, Louis Dumisani Gumede and Bongani Chonco, will join Mthokozisi Mchunu, Menzi Ngubo and Selby Sikhosana in the high court in Pietermaritzburg in connection with the case on June 1.

They face charges of motor vehicle theft, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances of cash boxes containing R206 571,95.

Two Group 4 Securicor guards were collecting cash from a safe at the garage when the accused allegedly drove up in a stolen vehicle, opened fire without warning and made off with the cash boxes.
