FACEBOOK and Twitter fans can now have the latest news on Durban’s 2010 developments on the city’s new website that was launched at the Moses Mabhida Stadium yesterday.

The official Durban 2010 website, www.fifaworldcup.durban.gov.za, is a user-friendly, interactive website designed to showcase the city and other 2010 developments to the world.

The R6,5 million website is loaded with interactive image galleries, a live webcam, Fifa news and widgets and even a currency converter.

The website, available in English, Zulu, Spanish, German and French, also has links to social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Delicious. A countdown clock, Fifa-related football stories, weather reports and accommodation and entertainment directories are included on the homepage.

Head of Durban’s strategic projects unit Julie-May Ellingson said the initial phase of the website would serve as an information portal to local residents who were interested in the city’s preparations for the Fifa World Cup, and, of course, also for international visitors.
