A FLEEING armed robber was arrested and admitted to hospital when his vehicle crashed down a slope shortly after he robbed Club Oregon in Dalton on Monday night.

SAPS spokesman Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said police received a report of an armed robbery at the club, and a short while later a police patrol in the area discovered the robber’s overturned vehicle on the main road to Umvoti Slopes.

Budhram said the armed suspect was found at the scene in possession of a 9 mm pistol, and has since been admitted to hospital under police guard after sustaining serious internal injuries.

Club Oregon owner Hansraj Sivagobind was with two other people when he was confronted by two men who held him at gunpoint and robbed him of cash and his vehicle keys.

Both Sivagobind’s passengers were forced out of the vehicle before the robbers fled in Sivagobind’s dark blue BMW.

An amount of R1 500 in stolen cash was recovered on the suspect at the accident scene. The remaining suspect fled from the scene prior to police arrival.
