FORMER KwaZulu-Natal Inland batsman Devon Conway scored a century as Gauteng put the visitors’ bowlers to the sword in their CSA Three-Day Championship game played at the Walter Milton Oval at Wits University in Johannesburg.
At the end of play yesterday, Gauteng were sitting on 275/6 and had a 74-run lead over KZN Inland after having bowled them all out for 201.
The 22-year-old Conway’s knock came off 144 deliveries and he smashed 17 fours as Gauteng took the game away from KZN Inland.
Partnered by 19-year-old Shaylen Pillay, the two put on a 136-run partnership as they really punished the KZN Inland bowlers.
However, with just one day of play remaining, it is hard to see how the game between the two teams can produce a winner.
Inland, who were sitting at 127/7 overnight, saw Ruhan Pretorius and Graham Hume put together a 68-run partnership that gave their target some respectability.
Pretorius eventually became the victim of Shaylen Pillay for 45, and Hume was dismissed by Ethan O’Reilly for 24.
Gauteng’s innings didn’t start off too well as opener Malcolm Nofal was bowled by Pretorius in the third over with just 14 runs on the board for the home side. Gauteng’s other opener, Yassar Cook, followed Nofal into the pavilion when he was caught LBW off the bowling of Inland’s most economical bowler on the day, Sibonelo Mthimkhulu.
